Continuing Healthcare and Personal Health Budgets: Individual Employer – Training for Personal Assistants

Your Requirements:

For people receiving Continuing Healthcare and Personal Health Budgets it is important to develop the knowledge and skills of Personal Assistants to ensure they provide safe care and support to Individual Personal Health Budget holders.

The principle of Personal Health Budgets is to meet an individual’s healthcare requirements within an allocated budget, it is reasonable to assume that a responsibility within this is to ensure that the training and development needs of the Personal Assistants are met, this includes initial training, refresher training, and for training in any new skill required when needs change.

There should be ongoing reviews to ensure competency is maintained and new competencies acquired when needed. High quality support and development should be provided to Personal Assistants.

Our solution:

Our goal is to meet the needs of the Individual Personal Health Budget holder and their Personal Assistants; we offer bespoke training, in the persons own home or at a location of their choice, which is delivered around their individual requirements and schedule.

Training is tailored around the individual’s circumstances and the identified training needs within a person’s health and well-being plan, ensuring Personal Assistants have received the appropriate training to help equip them to efficiently and confidently care for the individual.

The benefits:

Personal Health Budgets work well when using person-centred care and care planning, which is the approach we use when identifying and providing training needs. This ensures we provide relevant and effective training which offers the best value for money and outcome for the Individual Personal Health Budget Holder.

All our training is fully aligned to Skills for Health requirements and upon completion of our training courses we can evidenced full achievements of the learning outcomes specified within relevant National Occupational Standards.

Our Practice Development and Clinical Skills Nurse Trainers are all qualified and experienced Nurses able to ensure evidenced based practice is maintained. All our trainers as well as holding professional qualifications in nursing also hold recognised teaching and assessing qualifications.

All of our tutors have exceptional knowledge, skills and experience in their training fields which is highly reflected in the training provided. Training sessions are highly interactive, regardless of the group size, incorporating discussions, group work, practical activities and elements of self-study.

Our training sessions include all the knowledge and understanding of a particular subject, as well as offering practice under simulation to gain confidence. Our sessions are focussed on the needs of the Individual Personal Health Budget holder and their care plan, as well as the Personal Assistants including their preferred learning styles to ensure we get the most from the session in terms of learning outcomes being achieved and evidenced to demonstrate due-diligence.

We have experience of supporting Personal Assistants to demonstrate competence under delegation whereby our nurse trainers work alongside the Personal Assistants to ensure safe practice. After a period of time working alongside the Personal Assistants our Nurse trainers can then assess a Personal Assistant competence and can delegate a particular skill for a period of 6 to 12 months without direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.

All our training and competency support services are fully supported by our Policy and Procedure for Safe Delegation to Personal Assistants which is agreed between the particular CCG and Individual Employer to ensure legal, safe, accountable and caring practice is maintained. Should you wish to discuss our services in more details then please contact us for a no-obligation initial discussion or meeting.
