The Level 3 Certificate in Palliative Care training course is designed to provide candidates with an understanding of the principles of palliative care. It will encourage health and social care staff to use a ‘whole person’ and ‘person-centred’ approach to meet the emotional, social and spiritual needs of dying people and their families and increase awareness of loss, grief and the ways in which they can offer appropriate support to the bereaved.This distance learning training programme also provides employers with a structured training programme which will meet the training needs of their employees, whilst remaining compliant with CQC, Skills for Care, and the Gold Standards Framework for staff training.
The Palliative Care training course aims to develop the learner’s knowledge and understanding of: the different perspectives on death and dying, the aims of end of life care, the support needed to manage pain and discomfort, how dementia impacts on end of life care and how to provide appropriate support to individuals with this condition at the end of life, the role of the health and social care worker at the time of death, and how to appropriately support the bereaved.

This specialist Palliative Care training course is accredited by a nationally recognised awarding body, NCFE, and has no end test. Health and social care staff work through the distance learning course materials at their own pace and at times convenient to them, so there is no need for them to attend the college to gain the qualification.

The materials contain the knowledge needed to meet the assessment requirements of the course as well as practical and reflective activities to allow health and social care staff to demonstrate their skills and test their knowledge and understanding.
The NCFE Level 3 Certificate in Palliative Care training course aims to provide a sound preparation for further study and access to a range of vocational qualifications, including NVQs/RQF (QCF) Diplomas in Health and Social Care.
