Bowel Care Training
This course offers thorough training to ensure healthcare professionals can confidently provide bowel care, promote patient comfort, and prevent complications.
It is estimated that over 5 million people in the UK are living with some form of diabetes. Of this number, around a quarter require insulin administration, including anyone with Type 1 diabetes.
This means it is almost inevitable that a care provider will need to support people who require insulin administration. Whether you are a hospital, clinic, residential or home care provider, it’s vital that your team have the necessary training to administer insulin safely.
If your organisation provides care for anyone, it’s vital that your team can handle any specific medical care that an individual or resident requires. Naturally this has some exceptions, but with something as common as diabetes, administering insulin should be a skill all care staff should have.
This also reflects well on your organisation. If your team shows exceptional competency and improved levels of care, you will be chosen over your competitors. Insulin administration is also beneficial for your individual team members, as it is a skill that can support their career progression and opens them up for more opportunities.
As an added bonus, it helps to ease some of the pressure faced by the NHS, especially district and community nurses.
However, just knowing how to administer insulin correctly is not enough.
Although the method for administering insulin is very important, and is therefore the focal point of our training course, there is a lot more to learn besides.
The diabetes section of our training course will improve the knowledge and understanding of diabetes, which in turn helps provide better care. Communication is key, especially if people within your care have dementia or learning difficulties that can make an insulin injection stressful.
The modules contained within this section of the course include:
This context is incredibly important. If your team members can demonstrate an understanding of diabetes, not just the methodology, it helps you to provide better overall care and support.
Our diabetes training course also covers modules around blood glucose monitoring, which is another important practical skill. These modules include:
Diabetes is directly affected by the lifestyle of an individual. By monitoring glucose levels, your team can communicate clearly with these individuals and will know when any changes to their lifestyle have made a difference to their overall health.
Once this section is complete, the course moves on to insulin administration, following these modules:
Our Safe Administration of Subcutaneous Insulin section is based upon the recommendations and guidance contained in the National Patient Safety Agency alert highlighting the most common errors in prescription and administration of insulin.
Like all of our training courses, we work hard to keep our insulin training courses up to date with the latest recommendations from governing bodies. This can be a change in methodology that must be followed, or an awareness of a new type of insulin that your team may need to identify and work with. Since the course is taught by a practicing professional, you can be sure that you get all the latest information and resources to back it up.
We can also tailor the course to suit your application. For example, if you provide care for adults with learning disabilities, we can provide more relevant resources and spend more time on communication and care for adults who need a more person-focused approach.
Delivery of this training course will be on-site. We understand that your team is busy, and fitting in a multi-hour training session isn’t easy when there is a lot of work to be done, so by coming to your location, we make it much easier to work around.
We will use your premises to deliver the course for up to 12 delegates. And if this isn’t practical, we offer e-learning and virtual classrooms for some modules or the entire course.
Upon completion, delegates will receive a certificate that is valid for 2 years.
