Adrenal Crisis Treatment Course Outline
Addison’s disease can be lived with if you medicate regularly with hormone supplements, but there is a risk of your usual symptoms becoming suddenly much worse. This is called an Adrenal Crisis (Addisonian Crisis) which requires immediate first aid management and advanced care in hospital.
Our course covers all fundamental information surrounding Addison’s disease: its causes, symptoms, treatments, prevention as well as what to do if someone has an Adrenal Crisis.
This course will be delivered using a variety of teaching methods including presentations, case studies, small group discussions, videos, and practical simulation. They are suited for all levels of knowledge and experience.

Escalation Plan – what should be in the escalation plan, how to store, prepare and administer the emergency medication which is intramuscular hydrocortisone.
Practice demonstration, simulation, and practice of preparing medications for intramuscular injections, including reconstituting hydrocortisone powder, drawing up, as well as intramuscular injection technique into the thigh.
