This is important in healthcare, education, and even customer service roles; any scenario that involves a person(s) with learning difficulties is much easier for all involved if you have received proper training.

This LDSS-funded course is designed to introduce the subject to newcomers for the very first time, but still goes into all the details you need to work with confidence.

The Importance of Learning Disability Awareness Training

The term learning disability encompasses a range of lifelong conditions that impact cognitive functioning and adaptive behaviour. A person with dyslexia, for example, is very different to someone with autism. Many learning disabilities are a spectrum too; some people with autism can function completely independently, whereas other people with autism may require full-time support.

No matter where you work, it’s important to have at least a basic understanding of the most common learning disabilities, so you can adapt the environment to suit them, or take action that helps them to be comfortable. This is especially important in health and social care, where every service user needs a unique approach to ensure they’re as well-looked after as they should be.
Your approach can be something as simple as being accepting or communicating well, all the way to specific actions and choices that help a person feel more comfortable. The best course of action won’t always be obvious, especially if you haven’t received any learning disability awareness training.

That’s where we come in.

Our Learning Disability Awareness Training Course

Like all good training courses, our approach to Learning Disability Awareness is simple yet effective. We first take you through the basics, with the relevant definitions that you’ll need for the duration of the course and beyond.

What some courses skip over is context. Just having the knowledge of learning disabilities is great, but an understanding of why that knowledge is so important goes a lot further.
To make this clearer, we tailor all of our courses to suit your needs. Whether you are a group of care and support workers in care homes, supported living and home care, or a group of educational professionals, we’ll select relevant case studies and resources that are the most applicable to you.

All of our professional training courses are taught by experts in the topic at hand. They therefore have an in-depth understanding of learning disabilities and will be able to adjust the course or answer questions.

Please keep in mind that this course is for groups only, and is not for individuals.

Learning Disability Awareness Training Course Delivery and Assessment

Like our Autism Awareness Courses, this course uses a blended learning approach. This means it is separated into two parts. First is E-learning, where you work through modules on your own time to get to grips with the fundamentals.

Upon completion, you will then attend a live training session where they can apply their newfound knowledge. This blends both theory and practical, ideal for learners of all types.
The live session can be completed virtually or we can come to you, making the course much easier to fit into a busy schedule.

To receive the certificate, learners must complete a workbook and portfolio that demonstrates their knowledge from both parts of the training course. As a Level 2 course, this also opens learners to join more advanced courses in the future.
