Course Outline
Everyone facing life-limiting illness will need some degree of supportive care in addition to treatment for their condition. The End of Life Care Awareness training course – Level 2 Certificate in Understanding End of Life Care - is designed to provide learners with an understanding of the principles of end of life and palliative care, enabling them to provide comprehensive and appropriate support to people nearing their end of life.
The End of Life Care Awareness training course aims to develop the learner’s knowledge and understanding of; the different perspectives on death and dying, the aims of end of life care, the support needed to manage pain and discomfort, how dementia impacts on end of life care and how to provide appropriate support to individuals with this condition at the end of life; the role of the health and social care worker at the time of death and how to appropriately support the bereaved.
Course Content
The Level 2 Certificate in Understanding End of Life Care Awareness training course comprises five mandatory units presented in three concise module workbooks:
- Unit 01: Understand how to work in end of life care (Credit value: 3) (A/503/8085)
- Unit 02: Understand how to provide support to manage pain and discomfort (Credit value: 2) (T/504/5519)
- Unit 03: End of life care and dementia (Credit value: 2) (K/505/1981)
- Unit 04: Understand the role of the care worker in time of death (Credit value: 3) (H/505/1980)
- Unit 05: Understand loss and grief in end of life care (Credit value: 3) (M/505/1982)
Course delivery and assessment

The learning materials include an assessment, which allows learners to demonstrate achievement of all learning outcomes associated with each unit.
